About Us

Hello! I'm Melissa Siegel, the Soap Sommelier and owner of The MelTea Soap Company. It's great to meet you! I'm married, I have 3 dogs, I love to bake, I love live theater and live comedy...and I honestly believe I can bring to you the most luxurious handcrafted soap in the world!

Thank you so much for your interest in my soap, my company, and if you've come to this page, my story!

I've been making soap for some time now and have always wanted to start my own business. When the world faced a pandemic and having a soap you could trust became more important than ever, I decided that it was time to start The MelTea Soap Company!

I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and raised (mostly) by my awesome single mom. At 16, I got a job at White Castle. In some ways it ended up being the most important job of my life, because there I met my future husband, Rick! 18 years later we are still together and as in love as ever!

Rick does all of the work on the website, he took all of the beautiful pictures on our site, and he tries to get the word out there on our company! More importantly than all of that, when I told him about my dream to try to bring my luxury soap to the world, he supported me totally and immediately, despite the cost to us in both time and in startup money. I couldn't do this without him supporting me every step of the way!

I stayed in St. Louis until I completed my Bachelor's Degree in Theatre at St. Louis University. After graduation, I moved to Connecticut and completed a certification at Yale University. Trying to take advantage of both my theatre degree and the amazing theatre culture of the city, after Connecticut we moved to Las Vegas.

I love Las Vegas. I got an opportunity to work for great companies and shows like Cirque du Soleil, UNLV Theatre, The Country Music Awards, The I Heart Radio Awards, and endless other shows and concerts. In Las Vegas, I got married, I met some of my best friends, I fully became an adult, and I learned so much about being creative.

I try to bring the creativity I learned from collaborating with such great minds into every bar of soap that I make. Learning to take chances, to use big, bold colors and patterns, to not fall into complacency or routine, and to never, ever be afraid to try something are all lessons that I hold close to my heart!

Although I loved Vegas and all the creative people I met there, after almost a decade away we decided it was time to return home to St. Louis and to our families. Since returning to St. Louis about 5 years ago, our family has expanded dramatically! Thanks to DNA testing and a vigorous search by myself and my husband, we found my father-in-law's birth family. They are wonderful people and took us all in immediately! We love you Loughridges!

The MelTea Soap Company's mission statement is simple: "To Make Soap a Little Better". To us it means both to make a better soap and to make the soap industry better. It's a phrase we've used for a while. When it was time to launch the company, we knew immediately it would be our mission statement.

Through all of my journey through life, I never imagined or dreamt of owning a soap company. I am so happy that dreams can change because now I'm living my new dream!
